A look back at April for the Braves

Here is a look back at how the Braves did in April.

The month of April is now complete. After a 5-0 start, the Braves went 5-12 to finish the month at 10-12, two games under .500 and in second place in the NL East, 4.5 games back of the New York Mets.

Here are how the Braves rank in offensive categories in MLB for the first 22 games:

Batting Average - .252 – 12th
Runs Scored – 94 – 15th
Home Runs – 17 – T 19th
On Base Percerntage - .319 – 13th
Stolen Bases – 10 – T 19th
Strikeouts – 140 – 28th (third-fewest)

Individually, A.J. Pierzynski leads the Braves with a .422 batting average and with 14 runs batted in. Nick Markakis has Atlanta’s best on base percentage with a .446 mark. Freddie Freeman has four home runs to lead the team. Eric Young, Jr. has three stolen bases for the team lead.

The Braves used 22 different batting orders in the 22 games.

And here are how the Braves rank in pitching categories in MLB:

Team ERA – 4.33 – 22nd
Saves – 8 – T 7th
Starter’s ERA – 4.14 – T 16th
Bullpen ERA – 4.64 – 28th

Shelby Miller leads the Braves in wins (three), ERA (2.17) and strikeouts (23). Jason Grilli has seven saves to lead the team, while Jim Johnson has the most appearances with 12. The Braves used 12 relievers in the month of April.
