With the game tied at 6 in the 10th inning, Smith tripled with one out. He would score the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice by Eric Young, Jr. It was Smith's second triple of the game. He now has five triples for Gwinnett and seven overall this season.
Smith was 3-6 with a RBI (10). For the season, Smith is now hitting .310 (128-413). His average in Triple-A is now .280 (58-207). In August, Smith is now hitting .364 (28-77) with 11 stolen bases.
In his last six games, Smith is now hitting .481 (13-27) with eight runs scored.
Christian Bethancourt also continued his good work in Triple-A. Bethancourt was 2-5 with two doubles (18) and a RBI (27). Bethancourt's average in Gwinnett is now up to .328.
Atlanta first baseman Freddie Freeman was 2-3 in his rehab game with Gwinnett. He had a double and two runs batted in. The Braves expect Freeman to be ready to join the big club Wednesday in San Diego.
Also on the farm Monday Rome lost to Charleston 3-0 but the Braves got a solid outing from right-hander Touki Toussaint, who took the loss (3-5). Toussaint allowed just one run on five hits in six innings of work, with two walks and five strikeouts. His ERA fell to 5.73.
Hector Olivera was 0-3 in the game with another walk. He has yet to get a hit for Rome but he has walked twice. The Braves hope Olivera can possibly be ready for Atlanta sometime next week.
