Free agent catcher Tyler Flowers might interest the Braves

The Braves could bring back a familiar face in catcher Tyler Flowers.

Mark Bowman of mentioned the Braves could have an interest in free agent catcher Tyler Flowers. I completely agree. This looks almost like a perfect fit.

The Braves need another catcher. It’s obvious they are ready for someone else to take Christian Bethancourt off their hands. Flowers is from Atlanta, still lives there, and would probably not be opposed to rejoining the team that drafted him back a decade ago.

Flowers has some power. He had nine home runs in 2015 in 331 at bats and 15 in 2014 in 407 at bats. Flowers would be a nice compliment to A.J. Pierzynski for the Braves in 2016.

The Braves traded Flowers in the Javier Vazquez deal in 2008. He’s hit .223 with 46 home runs and 142 RBI in 1267 at bats in parts of seven seasons with the White Sox.

Flowers would probably not cost a ton, which would make him more appealing to the Braves. He also can play some at first base if needed.

Tyler was a great kid when he was with the Braves before the trade. There are still many scouts and coaches in the Atlanta organization that like Flowers, so don’t be shocked if there are discussions with his agent on a reunion with the Braves.
