The Braves are bringing veteran reliever Alexi Ogando in as a minor league free agent with an invitation to big league spring training.
Ogando pitched last season with Boston. He was 3-1 with a 3.99 ERA in 64 games. Ogando allowed 59 hits in 65.1 innings, with 29 earned runs, 28 walks and 53 strikeouts.
Ogando spent five seasons with the Texas Rangers. He was a reliever when he came up in 2010 and had a 1.33 ERA in 44 games. Then the Rangers used him as a starter in all but two of his 31 games pitched. Ogando then went back to the bullpen full-time in 2012. He split time between the rotation and bullpen in 2013. In his last year in Texas, Ogando struggled with a 6.84 ERA in 27 appearances.
The Braves will also have David Carpenter in camp as a non-roster player trying to make the bullpen. Evan Rutckyj will also fight for a job as a Rule V candidate.
