Caught in the Callup: Braves make Roster moves

The transaction wire was hopping on Sunday as the Braves made a flurry of moves recalling Johnny Estrada, Damon Hollins, and Jesse Garcia from Richmond and sending Horacio Ramirez down to R-Town in a procedural move. Who will be called up next? BravesCenter analyzes.

The charter from Richmond to Atlanta was full yesterday as the Braves called up Jesse Garcia, Damon Hollins, and Johnny Estrada from AAA Richmond to solidify their postseason roster.

According to MLB rules, Players had to be on a team's roster by midnight Sunday to be eligible for the first round of the playoffs.

The Braves also sent lefty starter Horacio Ramirez to AAA in a procedural move that makes Jesse Garcia (.302 with 2 Homers and 30 RBI for Richmond) eligible to play in the divisional series. This move makes Horacio ineligible to pitch in the divisional series, but he will be able to pitch in the championship series - if the Braves advance that far.

The Braves also purchased the contract of outfielder Damon Hollins from Triple-A Richmond and placed him on the 15-day disabled list with torn thumb ligaments. Hollins was called up to create roster flexibility and probably won't play for Atlanta.

Another callup, Johnny Estrada joined the Braves in Pittsburgh on Sunday and singled as a pinchhitter. He will be the third catcher behind Javy Lopez and Henry Blanco. He hit .328 with 10 Homeruns and 66 RBI with Richmond this season.

The Braves still have several roster spots available and are expected to call up Mike Hessman as early as Monday. Bubba Nelson and Andy Pratt are two possibilities to fill the other spots on the Braves September roster.
