-- Braves released first baseman Robert Fick.

--OF Gary Sheffield, C Javy Lopez and LHP Mike Hampton won Silver Slugger awards.

--Sheffield and Lopez, along with RHP Greg Maddux and 3B Vinny Castilla, filed for free agency. Sheffield's publicist, Marvet Britto, said, "Gary loves Atlanta. He loves the fans and the organization. But at the end, it comes down to what team is willing to accordingly compensate him for what he is worth."

--The Braves have a host of prospects playing in the Arizona Fall League: P Adam Waiwright, SS Kelly Johnson, 2B Richie Lewis, OF Adam Sten and pitchers Brett Evert, Kevin Berry and Alec Zumvalt.

--LHP Horacio Ramirez has been added to the roster of Team USA.

BY THE NUMBERS: $9.5 million in 2002; $11 million in 2003. -- Gary Sheffield's salary the last two seasons. Coming off a season in which his .330 batting average included 39 home runs and 131 RBI, second in the National League, he wants more.
