FIFTH ROUND PICK: #161, Van Pope, 3B
Selected by Chicago White Sox in 28th Round (832nd Overall) of 2003 amateur draft. (June-Reg Phase)
HS Report: (2002)
A veteran shortstop, Pope developed into a superb right-handed pitcher last season as a junior.

"Van is a (former Mississippi State standout) Pete Young type of player. He could play a position and also be a pitcher at the college level."
Pope struck out 18 in eight innings, including 12 of the his last 13 batters, without allowing a walk in a 6-4 loss in 12 innings to No. 13 Pascagoula last week at Petal. Terry is ranked No. 8.
