Braves make more minor league roster moves

The Braves have made additional roster moves in their minor league system. BravesCenter's Bill Shanks has the details.

The Atlanta Braves continue to move players upward in their farm system. They have promoted Mississippi infielders Scott Thorman and Jonathan Schuerholz to AAA Richmond, while sending Myrtle Beach second baseman Martin Prado to AA.

Schuerholz was hitting .275 with 4 home runs and 21 RBI in 298 at bats for Mississippi. He also had 7 stolen bases, 12 doubles, and 2 triples. Schuerholz has improved every month from the start of the season. He started off very slowly in AA, hitting only .222 in April with 0 home runs and 1 RBI. But then he hit .281 in May, .290 in June with 3 home runs and 10 RBI, and then so far in July he was hitting .343 in 35 at bats.

Thorman will play in the Southern League All-Star game Tuesday and then head to AAA Richmond. The left-handed hitting first baseman was second in the Southern League with 65 RBI and 5th with 15 home runs. Thorman also had a .302 average and 21 doubles in 344 at bats. In one less at bat in AA last season, Thorman hit .252 with 11 home runs and 51 RBI, so he made drastic improvement this season.

Prado was hitting .307 with the Pelicans, along with 3 home runs and 32 RBI in 290 at bats. He also had a .356 on base percentage and 9 stolen bases. The 21-year old right-handed hitter is a career .307 hitter, and will now be tested in AA Mississippi for the rest of this season.

The Braves will also return Mike Rosamond to Mississippi to help play first base. Rosamond started the season with the M-Braves and hit .218 in 32 games with 2 homers and 5 RBI. Then he was promoted to AAA and his .224 with Richmond, 1 home run, and 7 RBI in 26 games.

Expect the organization to also move one of Myrtle Beach's starting pitchers to Mississippi after the All-Star Break. There could be a few more roster moves later today.
