Bill Shanks on ESPN 2's Cold Pizza Tuesday Publisher Bill Shanks will appear on ESPN 2's "Cold Pizza" program Tuesday. Publisher Bill Shanks will be on ESPN 2's "Cold Pizza" morning show Tuesday around 9:15 to talk about the Braves' playoff chances and his new book Scout's Honor: The Bravest Way To Build A Winning Team.

Shanks has covered the Braves since the late 1980s, going back to his days in high school. He covered the team for local television stations in Brunswick and Macon, Georgia. From 2001-2003 Shanks hosted and produced a weekly television program on the Braves and their minor league farm system called "The Braves Show."

Then in 2004 Shanks started work on a new book that details how the Braves have used traditional scouting methods to build the most consistent winning team in baseball. The book counters Moneyball, written several years ago on the Oakland A's.

Scout's Honor has scouting stories on many of the current Braves' players, including John Smoltz, Horacio Ramirez, Blaine Boyer, Macay McBride, Brian McCann, Adam LaRoche, Marcus Giles, Chipper Jones, Kelly Johnson, and Jeff Francoeur.

The book also details how Bobby Cox implemented philosophies in the mid-80s as the Braves' General Manager that turned the franchise around. Shanks examines how Cox, General Manager John Schuerholz, Assistant General Manager Dayton Moore, Scouting Director Roy Clark, and former Scouting Director Paul Snyder all formed the philosophies that led to a tremendous run of success over the last fifteen seasons.

Scout's Honor is available here at and at Barnes and Noble Bookstores all over the country.

"Cold Pizza" airs weekdays on ESPN 2 from 8-10am and is replayed from 10am-12pm.
