Braves' left-hander Macay McBride will join the BravesCenter.com premium subscribers tonight in the chatroom during the 7 o'clock hour. McBride will be heading to Atlanta Wednesday to participate in the Braves' Early Throwing Program with new pitching coach Roger McDowell.
McBride, Atlanta's first round pick in the 2001 draft, made his major league debut last July. He pitched in 23 games for Atlanta and was 1-0 with a 5.79 ERA, 18 hits in 14 innings, 9 earned runs, 7 walks, and 22 strikeouts. He had one bad game in early August that cost him two plus runs on his ERA, but other than that he was very effective out of the bullpen.
He was particularly effective against left-handed batters, allowing only a .172 average and striking out 15 of the 29 lefty batters he faced.
The 23-year-old McBride will battle John Foster and Mike Remlinger for the left-handed job(s) in the Atlanta bullpen this spring.
