I spent some time watching the AAA and AA teams today play the Cleveland Indians' AAA and AA teams.
In the AAA game, Eric Schmitt started and went two scoreless innings and gave up only three hits. Schmitt has a very slow changeup - low 70s stuff. He's battling for a spot in the Richmond bullpen.
Brian O'Connor, who pitched mostly in AA last season, went two innings and gave up one run on three hits, no walks, and three strikeouts.
Daniel Curtis went two scoreless innings, with a walk and a strikeout. Ryan Basner looked good in his two innings, with three strikeouts. And Glenn Tucker gave up a home run in the 9th inning.
Luis Hernandez made a terrific play for the Richmond team Monday. Don't forget about this kid. He can really play defense.
In the AA game, Brady Endl continued his solid spring with two scoreless innings. Endl gave up a hit and struck out two. Luis Atilano struck out two in his two scoreless innings, while Wes Letson gave up a run in two frames. Michael Nix pitched two innings and looked solid. Lefty Edgar Osuna pitched the ninth inning.
The offense is really behind the pitching at this point. Brandon Jones had a triple in the game. That was about it. Not much offense at all from the AA team today.
The rumors are getting strong that the Braves are getting ready to leave Richmond, Virginia. The Triple-A club has been there since 1966. Charlotte and Jacksonville have been rumored as possibilities in the past. This time two years ago is when the Braves announced they were leaving Greenville for Pearl, Mississippi.
Tuesday the A clubs are home against Houston, while the AAA and AA teams head to Kissimmee.
The major leaguers are off Tuesday.
