Opening Day for the minor leagues

It's Opening Day for the minor leagues, and BravesCenter's Bill Shanks has the rundown on the Braves' top four minor league affiliates.

Richmond kicks off the 2006 campaign at home this afternoon at 2:00 pm as they host Buffalo.

First-year manager Brian Snitker sends right-hander Anthony Lerew to the mound for the Braves. Lerew was in the bullpen during spring training, but now the Braves want him to get quality innings in Triple-A.

Jeff Blauser makes his managerial debut tonight at Trustmark Park as Mississippi hosts Huntsville. Game time is 8:05 ET.

Sean White, who made a great impression on Atlanta Manager Bobby Cox in March, will get the start for the Braves, who are beginning their second season in Pearl.

The Rocket Man is home! Rocket Wheeler, a resident of Pawley's Island, just south of Myrtle Beach, will make his Pelicans' managerial debut tonight at Coastal Federal Field. First pitch is promptly at 7:02.

Lefty Jake Stevens, who was 10-9 with the Pelicans last year, will be the Opening Night starter for Myrtle Beach.

Right-hander Chris Vines, who was 6-7 for Rome last year, will be the Braves' Opening Night starter as Kannapolis comes to State Mutual Stadium tonight at 7 pm.

Randy Ingle takes over as the skipper for the Rome team. The veteran minor league manager will have a young squad, including 17-year-old shortstop Elvis Andrus.
