Minor League Preview - Wednesday April 19

Bill Shanks previews Wednesday's action around the Braves' farm system.

RICHMOND


Richmond goes for its second win in a row Wednesday afternoon when it plays at Buffalo starting at 1:05 pm.

Newly-signed Ricardo Rodriguez will get his first start for the Braves. He was signed earlier this week after being released in spring training by the Phillies. He'll face Indians' prospect Jeremy Guthrie.

David Kelton extended his hitting streak to a club season high eight games yesterday (11- 37, .297). Carlos Mendez has hits in five straight (6-22, .272). Mendez, hitting .231 overall, leads the club in RBI and batting average with runners in scoring position (.455). Wes Timmons has hits in four straight games (6-17, .353). He is four for his last nine. Scott Thorman has hits in four straight (6-17 .353). Carlos Duran has three hits in his last six at bats.

The Braves are now 4-9 on the season.

MISSISSIPPI


Mississippi goes for its second in a row Wednesday night as David Coggin goes for his first win of the season against the Diamond Jaxx from West Tennessee.

Gregor Blanco's .341 batting average ranks sixth in the Southern League, his 11 runs scored leads the league, his six doubles ties him for second on the circuit. Martin Prado's .333 average ranks him seventh in the league. Paul Bush's two wins ties him for third in the league. Will Startup's two wins ties him for third in the Southern League.

The Braves split a double-header with West Tennessee Tuesday night and are now 6-7 on the season. Mississippi is a half game back of Birmingham in the Southern League's South Division.


MYRTLE BEACH


Luis Atilano will try to have his second straight solid outing tonight as the Pelicans host Winston-Salem starting at 7:02 pm.

Atilano pitched seven strong innings last weekend to lower his ERA to 8.38. He had a rough outing in his debut earlier in the month.

The Pelicans are now 6-7 on the season, 3.5 games back of Kinston in the Carolina League's Southern Division.


ROME


Rome will take a well-deserved day off Wednesday after extending its winning streak to five games on Tuesday.

The Braves are now 10-2 on the season. Augusta will come to State Mutual Stadium Thursday for the first of a four-game series and an eight-game homestand for the Braves. Jo Jo Reyes will pitch the series opener for the Braves.
