Minor League Preview - Saturday April 22

Bill Shanks previews the day around the Braves' farm system.


The Richmond Braves start a two-game series with Norfolk tonight at the Diamond in Richmond. Lefty Brian O'Connor will pitch for the Braves. He's 0-1 on the sesaon with a 4.85 ERA.

Richmond is now 4-12 on the season, seven games back of Charlotte in the International League's South Division. They have lost three in a row and nine of their last ten games.


Mississippi will finish out its suspended game from Friday night starting at 8:00 at Trustmark Park. Play was halted Friday after an hour-long rain delay. They'll pick up the game in the bottom of the eighth inning with Montgomery leading 4-2.

Twenty minutes after the first game is completed they'll play the regularly scheduled game. Sean White is scheduled to pitch for the Braves, who are still 7-8 on the season, 1.5 games back of first place Jacksonville.


Myrtle Beach will try to avoid a sweep tonight as they play the final game of a three-game series in Kinston.

The Pelicans have lost the first two games of the series to drop to 7-9 on the year, 4.5 games back of the first place Kinston club. Jose Ascanio makes his fouth start of the season for Myrtle Beach against Kinston right-hander Sean Smith.


The red hot Rome Braves just keep rolling along. They go for win number seven in a row tonight at State Mutual Stadium when they host Augusta starting at 7:05.

Beau Jones will start for the Braves against Ryan Shaver. The Braves are 11-2 on the season, 3.5 games ahead of Asheville in the Sally League's Southern Division.
