Minor League Report - Thursday April 20

Bill Shanks takes a look back at Thursday's action around the Braves' farm system, including a terrific performance by Mississippi lefty Chris Waters.

RICHMOND

Buffalo grabbed an early lead off Richmond starter Kevin Barry and held on for the 4-2 victory Thursday afternoon.

Einar Diaz drove in two runs in the second inning, while Jason Dubios knocked in two more in the third inning to end the scoring for the Bisons.

Barry took the loss after allowing the four runs on seven hits in four inning. He walked three and struck out five.

The Braves scored one in the third on a Scott Thorman single and added another run in the sixth inning on Michael Ryan's home run off former Brave Steve Karsay.

Richmond (4-11) and Buffalo finish their four-game series Friday at 1:05 pm. Anthony Lerew will pitch for the Braves against right-hander Jake Dittler.

MISSISSIPPI

An absolute outstanding pitching performance by left-hander Chris Waters Thursday night as the Braves beat the Diamond Jaxx 4-2 in Jackson, Tennessee.

Waters allowed only two unearned runs on seven hits in eight innings of work. He walked two, struck out six, and lowered his ERA to 1.59. Waters is now 1-0 on the season. Will Startup came in and struck out the side in the ninth inning to get his first save with Mississippi.

Carl Loadenthal gave Waters an early lead with a solo home run in the first inning. After West Tenn scored their two unearned runs in the fifth, the Braves tied the game in the seventh on Mike Rosamond's third home run of the season.

Mississippi grabbed the lead in the ninth when Rosamond doubled home Matt Esquivel. Rosamond then scored on a ground ball single by Jamie Trejo to give the Braves a two-run lead.

The Braves head home and will send Daniel Curtis (1-1) to the mound Friday night against the Montgomery Biscuits.

MYRTLE BEACH

Myrtle Beach's three-game winning streak came to a screeching halt Thursday night as Kinston wallopped the Pelicans 15-5.

The Indians scored seven runs off Myrtle Beach starter Charlie Morton, who took the loss to fall to 1-2 on the season. Kinston then scored six more runs off reliever Wes Letson, who had his worst outing of the season.

J.C. Holt was one of five Pelican hitters that had five hits on the night. Holt added two runs batted in.

Jake Stevens goes for his first win of the year Friday night as the Pelicans take on the Indians. Game time is 7:00 pm.

ROME

Rome and Augusta were rained out as they tried to start a series Thursday night at State Mutual Stadium.

No make up date has been set as of yet. The two teams will play again Friday night with Jo Jo Reyes (1-0) getting the start against Augusta's Shairon Martis (1-0).

The Braves are 10-2 on the season and have the best winning percentage in all of minor league baseball.
