Minor League Injury Report

Bill Shanks updates the injury situations around the minor leagues.

RICHMOND

Former Rangers' reliever Carlos Almanzar is far along on his progress recovering from the Tommy John surgery he had last May 18th. He's at Extended Spring Training and could join Richmond in June.

James Jurries was hit in the knee with a ball a few weeks ago. He's out for about two or three more weeks. He will soon report to Florida to start rehabbing.

Joey Devine has had no activity at all for the last two weeks to try to help his lower back pain. He'll report to Florida and Extended Spring Training on Wednesday to start a throwing program. If all goes well for the next few weeks, he'll probably re-join Richmond.

MISSISSIPPI

Brady Endl is in Florida at Extended Spring Training. He had a shoulder problem earlier in the season, and then some soreness developed in his elbow. He is several weeks away from going back to join Mississippi.

Lefty starter Francisley Bueno is in Atlanta today having his shoudler examined. He came out of his last game with some shoulder pain.

Starter David Coggin has had some shoulder pain as well. The former Phillie is trying to come back from shoulder trouble and doctors believe it is simply scar tissue.

Outfielder Josh Burrus is back on the Mississippi roster tonight. He had shoulder surgery late last season but is ready to go in Double-A. Carl Loadenthal was sent to Myrtle Beach to make room for Burrus on the roster.

Outfielder Barbaro Canizares dove for a ball a few games ago and strained his shoulder. The Braves hope he'll be off the disabled list Wednesday.

MYRTLE BEACH

Shortstop Diory Hernandez broke his hammate bone last Saturday. He'll be in Atlanta for an examination on Thursday. Hernandez could miss 6-8 weeks.

Second baseman J.C. Holt could go on the disabled list today. He sublexed his shoulder last night and is being examined today. He might miss a week or two.

Outfielder Mark Jurich is taking live BP at Extended Spring Training. He had shoulder surgery in February. He still has to improve on his throwing before he is sent to a team.

ROME

Lefty Beau Jones has a strained oblique muscle. He's going to skip his scheduled start tonight and should be back next week.

Starter Nelson Payano cut his finger reaching into the dishwasher. He's going to throw a side session soon and could be back in a couple of weeks.

Asher Demme, who started the season in Rome's rotation, is back at Extended and working on strengthening his elbow. He had some soreness after his start in Rome.

Outfielder Jon Mark Owings, injured in a nasty collision on March 13th in Kissimmee, is doing well at Extended Spring Training and could join Rome's roster this weekend.
