Minor League Preview - Tuesday May 9

The Braves Show's Bill Shanks takes a look at tonight's schedule for the Braves' top four farm clubs.

RICHMOND


Richmond plays game two of its series in Columbus tonight looking for its second win in a row.

Travis Smith, 2-0 with 1.97 ERA in six starts, will get the call for the Braves. Jeffrey Karstens (0-4, 7.28) will go for the Clippers.

The Braves are now 12-20 on the season and in fourth place of the International League's South Division, 13 games back of the Charlotte Knights.


MISSISSIPPI


Mississippi plays the middle game of its series with West Tennessee tonight starting at 8:05 at Trustmark Park.

Chris Waters will pitch for the Braves. He's 2-1 on the season with a 3.18 ERA, 27 hits in 28.1 innings pitched, 10 earned runs, 13 walks, and 27 strikeouts.

The Braves are 12-19 on the season, 6.5 games back of Montgomery and in fourth place of the Southern League's South Division.


MYRTLE BEACH


Myrtle Beach tries to snap a four-game losing streak tonight as they host the Frederick Keys in game two of the four-game series at Coastal Federal Field.

Kelvin Villa will make his first start of the season. Villa has a 2.14 ERA in six relief appearances this season. He will replace Jose Ascanio in the Pelicans' rotation, who was disabled Friday with elbow tendonitis. Garrett Olson will pitch for the Keys.

The Pelicans are now 16-15 on the season, five games back of Kinston in the Carolina League's Southern Division.


ROME


Rome needs a good game from its ace tonight as they wrap up the last game of the series in Greenville.

Chris Vines makes his seventh start of the season. The right-hander is 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA, only six walks, and 27 strikeouts in 35 innings of work.

The Braves remain in first place of the Sally League's Southern Division, three games up on the Asheville Tourists.
