Minor League Stars - Tuesday August 15

The Braves Show's Bill Shanks takes a look at some of the best performances from around the Braves' Farm System from Tuesday night.

Will Startup had another solid outing for Richmond, allowing an unearned run with 2 strikeouts in an inning. Startup has not allowed an earned run in his five games this month (5 hits in 6.1 innings, 1 unearned run, no walks, 7 strikeouts). His ERA has dipped to 3.78. After a rough ten-game stretch from June 10 - July 16 (7.55 ERA, 12 runs on 22 hits in 14.1 innings, 6 walks, and 11 strikeouts), Startup has been outstanding in his last nine games: 1-0, 1.35 ERA, 10 hits allowed in 13.1 innings, 3 runs, 2 earned runs, 2 walks, and 11 strikeouts. Startup may not be called up this September, but he's got an excellent shot at competing for a job in Atlanta's bullpen next spring.

Van Pope had two home runs for the Pelicans as they beat Lynchburg 6-5. Pope had a two-run home run in the first and a solo shot in the fifth. Pope now has 11 home runs, a .268 average, and 59 RBI.

Kris Medlen picked up his 7th save of the season for the Danville Braves. This year's 10th round pick has been dominating for the Braves. He's allowed only 1 run in 16 games, only 2 walks, and 26 strikeouts.

Chad Rodgers led the GCL Braves to a victory Tuesday afternoon. He pitched five scoreless innings and allowed three hits, no walks, and three strikeouts. It was the second straight game Rodgers has pitched five scoreless innings. This year's third round pick now has an ERA of 1.70. Rodgers and Jeff Locke, this year's second round pick, have been particularly impressive in August. The two have combined for a 4-1 record in six games, an ERA of 1.13 ERA, 14 hits allowed in 24 innings, 3 earned runs, 5 walks, and 26 strikeouts.
