Braves add five Danville Braves to Rome team

The Rome Braves are adding reinforcements for the playoff series with Augusta. The Braves Show's Bill Shanks has more.

After the Danville Braves won the Appalachian League title this past weekend, it was obvious that some of those players would join the Rome team for its playoffs series against Augusta.

The Braves' organization has promoted five players to Rome for the postseason series against the Greenjackets, which starts Wednesday night in Augusta. The series will switch to Rome Thursday for Game Two and Friday for Game Three (if necessary).

Two pitchers will join the Rome team from Danville: right-handers Jamie Richmond and Kris Medlen. Richmond, the Appy League's Pitcher of the Year, was 7-1 with a 1.21 ERA during the regular season. Medlen, Atlanta's 10th round pick in June, was 1-0 with a spectacular ERA of 0.41 with 20 saves for Danville. During the Appy League playoffs, both players recorded a win while Medlen added a save.

Also joining Rome is catcher Phillip Britton and outfielders Larry Williams and Willie Cabrera. During the regular season Britton hit .296 with seven homers and 35 RBI, while Williams hit .338 with two homers and 46 RBI. Cabrera was also a strong hitter for Danville, posting a .308 average with seven homers and 37 RBI.

In post season play Britton hit .333, Cabrera hit .273 and Williams hit .364 with a home run.

Danville won the Appalachian League championship Sunday by defeating Elizabethton two games to one.
