Minor League Report - April 17

The Braves Show's Bill Shanks takes a look at the schedule for the Braves' farm system.

Richmond plays game two of the three-game series against Louisville tonight at the Diamond. Anthony Lerew (0-0, 4.50) will pitch for the Braves against Bats' lefty Bobby Livingston (0-0, 3.00). Lerew has been working on a new two-seam fastball and the coaching staff is seeing positive progress.

Macay McBride made his first appearance for Richmond Monday night and had two walks and hit a batter, but he got out of the inning without allowing a run. McBride is working with Richmond pitching coach Guy Hansen to stop throwing across his body. That's what led to his control troubles in Atlanta before his demotion to the minor leagues on Sunday.

The Braves will send lefty Jo Jo Reyes (0-0, 2.79 ERA) to the mound tonight in game two of the series against the Diamond Jaxx. Game time is 8:05 pm ET. Right-hander Andy Baldwin will pitch for West Tenn.

Mississippi is now 8-2 in its last ten games. The offense continues to shine for the Braves. Matt Esquivel now leads the Southern League with 12 RBI. Outfielder Brandon Jones was named as the league's Player of the Week after hitting .415 with three doubles, two triples, one home run, and eight RBI last week.

Tough news for the Pelicans as they had to place third baseman Eric Campbell on the disabled list with a ligament sprain in his thumb. Campbell was off to a slow start in his first eight games, hitting only .179 with one home run and two RBI. Also, Isaiah Ka'aihue will miss a few games with a stiff back.

Tonight the Pelicans will send Moises Hernandez (2-0, 1.69) to the mound against Warthogs right-hander Joe Gannon. The Pelicans are 6-5 on the season. Game time is 7:05 at Coastal Federal Field.

After a thrilling 13-inning victory over Greenville Monday night, the Rome Braves start a four-game series in Asheville tonight. Tommy Hanson is scheduled to start for Rome. He's 0-1 on the season with an ERA of 5.00, but he has only three walks and 16 strikeouts in nine innings of work.

The Braves are now 2-10 on the season, ten full games behind undefeated Augusta in the Sally League's Southern Division.
