Minor League Preview - April 25

The Braves Show's Bill Shanks previews today's action in the Braves' farm system.


Richmond plays a morning game at Louisville wrapping up a quick two-game series at Louisville Slugger Field. Game time is 11:05 am ET. Buddy Carlyle (1-1, 6.28) pitches for the Braves against Reds' top prospect Homer Bailey (1-0, 1.76).

The Braves are 10-5 on the season, 3.5 games up on Charlotte in the International League's South Division.


Mississippi closes out its series with Birmingham this afternoon at 12:05 pm ET at Trustmark Park with lefty Kelvin Villa (1-1, 3.77) on the mound. He'll face right-hander Kris Honel (1-0, 1.69) of the Barons.

The Braves (14-5) are in first place in the Southern League's South Division with a three-game lead on Birmingham and Jacksonville. It's the first time in the three-year history of the franchise that the team has been in sole possession of first place.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia has an eight-game hitting streak (13-31, .419). He's second in the Southern League with a .379 (22-58) batting average and is tied for the league lead with six home runs. He also leads in OPS with an amazing 1.246 and SLG % at .776.

Brandon Jones is tied for the league lead with 25 hits and is tied for seventh with a .333 batting average. Joe Winkelsas leads the league with a perfect ERA of 0.00 in his first eight games, while Dan Smith (1.64) is fifth and Jo Jo Reyes (1.69) is sixth.


The Pelicans play game three of the four-game series with Salem tonight at 7:05 pm. Lefty Jake Stevens (1-1, 1.84) will oppose Salem's Raymar Diaz (0-1, 4.41).

Myrtle Beach is 9-9 on the season, two games back of Winston-Salem in the Carolina League's Southern Division.


Rome is off on Wednesday. They start a four-game series at State Mutual Stadium against the Savannah Sand Gnats on Thursday. The Braves are 3-17 on the season, 14 games back of Augusta in the Sally League's Southern Division.
