Minor League Report - May 1

The Braves Show's Bill Shanks previews the action today in the Braves' minor league system.


Richmond starts a six-game homestand tonight at the Diamond with Charlotte providing the competition. The Braves are off to their best start (15-5) since 1985. Buddy Carlyle (2-1, 4.66) will pitch tonight for Richmond against Gavin Floyd. Braves starters have not allowed an earned run in the last 29 innings. Richmond is 6.5 games on top of Durham in the International League's South Division and they have won four game in a row.


The Braves are in Mobile this afternoon for a game against the Bay Bears. Lefty Kelvin Villa is pitching for Mississippi, who is 17-7 on the season and in first place in the Southern League's South Division, 3.5 games up on Birmingham.


The Pelicans play game two of its four-game series in Salem tonight with James Parr (0-3, 4.60) on the mound against Brian Bogusevic (1-2, 4.34) for the Avs. Lefty Jonny Venters will also see a few innings for the Pelicans. Myrtle Beach is 11-13 on the season but only 3.5 games back of Kinston in the Carolina League's Southern Division.


Rome is playing a day game in Columbus today. Jeff Lyman and Beau Jones are scheduled to pitch for the Braves, who are 6-19 as we start the month of May.
