Minor League Preview - May 26

Here's Saturday's preview of the Braves' minor league action.


Richmond will send lefty Dan Smith to the mound tonight to try and snap the team's six-game losing streak. Smith was promoted from AA Mississippi after going 4-2 with a 1.94 ERA. Smith had allowed only 37 hits in 51 innings, with 20 walks, and 41 strikeouts. The Braves are 27-17 on the season, six games up on the Durham Bulls in the International League's South Division.


The Braves will take on Montgomery tonight at 8:05 pm ET at Trustmark Park. Lefty Francisley Bueno (1-2, 3.72) will go for Mississippi against Biscuits' lefty James Houser (3-0, 2.39). The Braves are 31-17 on the season, four games on top of Jacksonville in the Southern League's South Division.


The Pelicans are struggling, losers of four games in a row. Right-hander Moises Hernandez, 6-2 on the season with a 3.42 ERA, will pitch for Myrtle Beach tonight against Wilmington. Game time is 7:05 at Coastal Federal Field. The Pelicans are 19-27 and now nine games back of Kinston in the Carolina League's Southern Division.


Tommy Hanson, who has been Rome's ace this season with a 1-2 record and a 2.25 ERA, will pitch tonight at State Mutual Stadium against Charleston. The Braves are 6-4 in the last ten games and are now 16-31 on the season and 15.5 games back of Augusta in the Sally League's Southern Division.
