Minor League Preview - May 31

Here's a look at Thursday's schedule around the Braves' farm system.


The Braves wrap up the series in Rochester tonight at 7:05 pm. Lefty Dan Smith makes his second start in Triple-A. Smith got the win in his Richmond debut by allowing only three runs on six hits in 5.2 innings. He'll face right-hander Dave Gassner. The Braves are now 29-20 on the season, five games up on the Durham Bulls in the International League's South Division. Richmond has lost two in a row and nine of its last 11 games. They are 14-15 in May after going 15-5 in the month of April.


It's game four of the five game series with the Chattanooga Lookouts tonight starting at 7:15 pm ET. Mississippi will send Charlie Morton (2-3, 3.98) to the mound in his first start of the season against Carlos Fisher (1-1, 1.17). The Braves are 33-20 on the season and four games up on Jacksonville in the Southern League's South Division.


Moises Hernandez, who is the Carolina League leader in wins with seven, will pitch for the Pelicans tonight in game one of the series in Frederick. Hernandez is 7-2 on the season with a 3.17 ERA. He'll oppose right-hander Brandon Erbe (3-1, 5.80). Myrtle Beach is now 23-28 on the season, seven games out of first place in Southern Division of the Carolina League.


The Braves and Sand Gnats will have a double-header Thursday afternoon starting at 5:30 at historic Grayson Stadium. Tommy Hanson will get the start in one of the games for Rome. Hanson is 2-2 with an ERA of 2.00 and he is second in the league with 63 strikeouts. Rome is now 19-33 on the season. They are 7-3 in the last ten games.
