Minor League Preview - July 26

Here's today's look around the Braves' farm system.


Dan Smith is back on the active list for Richmond and will start tonight against Ottawa as the Braves go for their fifth win in a row. Smith was 3-2 for Richmond with a 4.78 ERA before he went on the disabled list. He'll face Fabio Castro (4-2, 2.89) for the Lynx.

Martin Prado improved his batting average to .326 last night and now leads the International League. Richmond is now 57-45 on the season and remain two games up on Durham in the South Division.


The Braves will try to snap a four-game losing streak tonight when they take on Chattanooga at 7:15 pm. Lefty Kelvin Villa (6-7, 4.98) goes for the Braves against right-hander Johnny Cueto (3-1, 2.67).

Mississippi is now 12-21 in the second half and 54-49 overall. One area that has been strong for the Braves is behind the plate, where Clint Sammons has thrown out 47% of would-be base runners.


Right-hander Dustin Evans will pitch for the Pelicans tonight at 7:05 at Coastal Federal Field. Evans is 1-5 with a 4.43 ERA. He'll face right-hander Serguey Linares (1-5, 4.76).

Myrtle Beach is 18-14 in the second half, a game back of Kinston in the Carolina League's Southern Division.


The Braves play game two of the four-game set in Kannapolis tonight at 7:05 pm ET. Kyle Cofield is scheduled to go for the Braves. He's been outstanding in his last ten appearances: 2-1, 2.02 ERA, 25 hits in 49 innings pitched, 11 earned runs, 25 walks, and 45 strikeouts.

Rome is 16-17 in the second half, four games back of Asheville in the Sally League's Southern Division.


The Braves try for another solid pitching performance tonight at Jose Ortegano takes the hill against Burlington. The lefty is second in the league with a 0.91 ERA, behind teammate Cole Rohrbough (0.59). Danville's starters have not allowed a run in their last six games, and in July the starters have an ERA of 1.88.

Danville is 22-10 on the season with the four-game winning streak, three games up on Burlington in the Appalachian League's East Division.


The GCL Braves are 8-24 this season. They are hosting the Blue Jays this afternoon at Disney's Wide World of Sports.
