Minor League Preview - July 30

Here's a preview of Monday's action around the Braves' farm system.


Blaine Boyer (2-1, 4.67) hits the mound for the Braves tonight in Toledo against Jordan Tata (3-3, 3.29) and the Mud Hens. Boyer is drawing positive reviews as a starter and could be recalled soon if Atlanta does not acquire a starting pitcher before Tuesday's deadline. Richmond has lost two in a row and is now 60-46 on the season, three games up on the Durham Bulls in the International League's South Division.


The Braves have sent Ryan Baerlocher down from Richmond to pitch tonight for Mississippi in place of Matt Harrison, who has a shoulder strain. Baerlocher was 2-4 in Richmond with a 4.25 ERA in ten games (nine starts). He'll face Esmerling Vasquez (7-4, 2.94) for the Bay Bears. Mississippi has lost eight in a row and is now 12-25 in the second half, fourteen games out of first place in the Southern League's South Division.


It's a big series for the Pelicans as they start a three-game set in Kinston against the first place Indians. Myrtle Beach is two games back of Kinston in the Carolina League's Southern Division. Right-hander Deunte Heath will pitch for the Pelicans tonight. He's 1-2 so far in High-A with a 5.91 ERA. He'll be opposed by right-hander Kevin Dixon (7-3, 3.88). Myrtle Beach is 20-16 in the second half of the season.


The Braves try to continue their winning ways as they start a series against the Lexington Legends at State Mutual Stadium tonight. Rome has won two in a row and seven in a row at home. They've also won nine of their last 12 games. The Braves send right-hander Jamie Richmond to the hill tonight. He's 5-3 overall with a 3.26 ERA and has a 2.92 ERA in his last fifteen outings. The Braves are 18-18 in the second half of the season, five games out of first place in the Sally League's Southern Division.


Jeff Locke will try to make it eight in a row for the Danville Braves as they play tonight in Burlington. The Braves (25-10) lead the Royals by 4.5 games in the Appalachian League's East Division. Locke is 3-1 on the season with a 3.68 ERA.


The GCL Braves hit the road to Tampa tonight to play the GCL Yankees at Legends Field. Game time is 7:00 pm ET. The Braves are 9-26 on the season, fifteen games out of first place in the GCL North Division.
