Minor League Preview - April 6

Here's a look at the schedule around the Braves' farm system for Sunday, April 6.

The Braves wrap up the four-game series with Rochester starting at 2:00 pm Sunday afternoon at the Diamond. Left-hander Francisley Bueno will go for Richmond against Kevin Mulvey, yet another pitcher acquired by the Twins in the Johan Santana trade with the Mets. Richmond is 2-1 in the opening weekend series, winning the last two games. They won 8-2 on Saturday behind a solid pitching performance from right-hander Charlie Morton.

The search for victory number one of the season will continue Sunday for the Mississippi Braves. They were swept in Huntsville Saturday 4-3 and 6-1. Jairo Cuevas, placed on the 40-man roster this past winter, will go for the Braves against Stars' lefty Brae Wright. Carl Loadenthal is off to a good start for the Braves with five hits in his first 11 at bats. Jordan Schafer is expected back in the lineup today after missing Saturday's double-header for personal reasons.

It's been two wins in two games so far for the Pelicans up in Wilmington. They'll try for three in a row this afternoon at 1:35 pm with right-hander Kyle Cofield on the mound. The Blue Rocks will pitch righty Greg Holland. The Pelicans have allowed only three runs in 22 innings this weekend. Saturday's starter Deunte Heath allowed just one run on two hits in five innings of work. Shortstop Brandon Hicks hit a home run, his first of the season and the first for the Pelicans so far this year.

The Braves had a tough, long day Saturday losing both ends of a double header to Charleston. Rome got home runs from left fielder Cody Johnson and center fielder Yohan Silva and two decent starts by Scott Diamond and Eric Barrett, but the River Dogs outscored Rome 18-4 in the two games. The two teams will play the series finale Sunday afternoon at 2:00 as Rome will again look for win number one of the season.
