One scout's view on Atlanta's prospects

The Braves Show's Bill Shanks spoke with a major league scout this weekend and got some interesting views on some of the Braves' prospects.

On Richmond outfielder Brandon Jones...
He can hit. He takes it to left field very well. I'm surprised he's struggling this season. But for me he's at least going to be a fourth outfielder. Hard to say if he'll get a shot at being a starter there, but he can play in the big leagues.

On Richmond shortstop Brent Lillibridge...
I think at the least he'll be a utility guy. He can really play shortstop very well. They should play him in center some to see how he does there.

On Mississippi starting pitcher Tommy Hanson...
I don't give a damn what he did out here Sunday. This kid is a stud. He was the best pitcher in the Carolina League and it wasn't even close. As long as he continues to improve that changeup, he's got a shot at being a legit top-of-the-rotation guy. Look at the depth on that breaking ball. I think he could really be special.

On Mississippi reliever Kevin Gunderson...
He's got a shot, but he's just got average stuff. He'll get in the big leagues, but I'm not sure how long he'll stay there. He might be more of an organizational guy.

On Mississippi first baseman Isaiah Ka'aihue...
If you struggle this much in Double-A, you're not going to make it. He's not making any adjustment at all at the plate.

On Myrtle Beach starting pitcher Deunte Heath...
After Hansen, he had the best arm in Myrtle Beach. For me, he's a reliever. That fastball would be dangerous coming out of the pen.

On Myrtle Beach starting pitcher Kyle Cofield...
Great breaking ball. He could be a middle reliever in the big leagues.

On Myrtle Beach shortstop Brandon Hicks...
Yeah, for me he's a player. He'll at least be a utility guy in the big leagues, but maybe more. You just watch him and know it.

On Myrtle Beach outfielder Gorkys Hernandez...
I like him better than Jordan Schafer. For me he's a future starter in center. And I think that power will come. He goes to left field very well for a young kid. Just a rangy kid that is only going to get better.
