Braves sign eight draft picks

The Braves have signed eight more draft picks, making it nine overall signed. The Braves Show's Bill Shanks has more.

The Atlanta Braves have signed five more draft choices from Thursday and Friday's Major League Baseball Draft.

Third round choice Craig Kimbrel is now a Brave. Kimbrel was a sophomore at Wallace State Community College in Alabama. The 5'11", 205-pound right-hander was 9-3 with a 2.88 ERA. He gave up 26 earned runs in 81.1 innings, with 51 walks, and 123 strikeouts.

Next is fourth round pick Braeden Schlehuber, a catcher from Community College of Southern Nevada. Schlehuber hit .332 this season in 60 games with 5 home runs, 42 RBI, and 16 stolen bases. Schlehuber 6'3" and weighs 190 pounds and will turn 21 next January.

The Braves have inked right-hander Paul Clemens, who was a sophomore at Louisburg College in North Carolina. The 6'3", 170-pounder was 4-3 with a 5.01 ERA in 41.1 innings, with 17 walks, and 46 strikeouts.

Kyle Farrell, a former teammate of Braves' prospect Cole Rohrbough at Western Nevada Community College, is now a Brave. The 6'4", 210-pound Farrell was 10-2 with a 1.71 ERA this season. He allowed 60 hits in 84.1 innings, with 36 walks, and 80 strikeouts. The Braves took Farrell in the 9th round on Friday.

Jason Hanson is an infielder from Sabino High School in Tucson, Arizona. He was taken in the 14th round Friday. Hanson is an 18-year-old that his .421 last season with 9 home runs, 46 RBI, and 14 doubles. The six-foot, 185-pounder played shortstop in high school, but he'll play third base with the Braves.

Casey Hodges joins the Braves organization from Mount Olive College in North Carolina. Hodges is a 6'2", 195-pound right-hander who was 9-1 this season with a 2.61 ERA. Hodges walked 17 and struck out 73 i 76 innings this season.

The Braves have signed shortstop Shayne Moody, from UNC Charlotte. Moody hit .337 in 59 games this season, with no home runs, 38 RBI, 16 doubles, and 15 stolen bases. Moody was drafted in the 24th round by Atlanta. He turns 24 this October. Moody is a fine defensive player who will play middle infield in the Braves organization.

And finally, the Braves signed 26th round pick Calvin Culver, an outfielder from Pierce Junior College in Los Angeles.

The Braves also signed one undrafted free agent Sunday night. Ryan Voelkel is a first baseman from Green River Community College. He's 6'5" and hits right-handed. This season at Green River Voelkel has 10 home runs and drove in 36.
