The Danville Braves have a 1-0 lead in the Appalachian League Championship Series with a 7-1 win over Elizabethton Wednesday.
Lefty Brett Oberholtzer pitched a nine-inning complete game and allowed only one run on five hits, with one walk, and six strikeouts.
Oberholtzer finished the regular season with a 6-2 record and a 2.01 ERA in 12 games (all starts). The 20-year-old allowed only 46 hits in 67 innings, with only six walks, and 56 strikeouts.
The game was tied at 1 until the sixth inning, with Riann Spanjer-Furstenburg, the Appalachian League's Player of the Year, singled in two runs to give Danville the lead.
The Braves will send Matt Crim, the Appy League's Pitcher of the Year, to the mound Thursday night at 7 for the championship.
