Gwinnett Braves Roster

Bill Shanks has the word on the Braves' Triple-A roster.

The Triple-A rotation will consist of Todd Redmond, James Parr, Ryne Reynoso, Jonny Venters, and Chris Resop. The Braves are going to have to stretch Venters out a bit, since he's been in big league camp all spring. Resop, mostly a reliever, will be stretched out to work on his new sinker.

Craig Kimbrel will be the main closer for Gwinnett, and he'll occasionally get two inning appearances. Veteran major leaguer Scott Proctor will continue to prepare for the big leagues by pitching in Gwinnett. Mike Dunn, Cory Gearrin, Mariano Gomez, Jeff Lyman, and Tim Gustafson round out the bullpen. Gustafson will be the long reliever, and especially with a few of the starters needing to be stretched out could see some longer appearances.

Veteran major leaguer Vladimir Nunez will start the season on the Gwinnett disabled list.

Clint Sammons will be the primary catcher, with J.C. Boscan as the backup for the G-Braves.

Freddie Freeman will be the starting first baseman for Gwinnett. He had a great spring and the Braves' front office wants to challenge the 20-year old by having him in Triple-A. It says a lot about how the Braves feel Freeman is not far from the big leagues.

Joe Thurston lost out on the last spot on the Atlanta roster, but he'll play everyday in Gwinnett. He'll play some at second and at third. Wes Timmons can also play both of those positions. And J.C. Holt will see time at second base and in the outfield. Barbaro Canizares will play some at first and be a designated hitter.

Brandon Hicks is being promoted from Double-A Mississippi to start at shortstop for the Gwinnett team.

Mitch Jones will start in left field for Gwinnett, with Gregor Blanco in center, and Brent Clevlan in right. Matt Young will also see significant time in both left field and center field.
