Iribarren, Bourgeois Produce Nice Numbers

Here is an update on some of the Milwaukee farm hands who were participating in the Caribbean Winter Leagues.

Here is a roundup of how some of the players from the Milwaukee minor league system had fared as the Caribbean Winter League seasons entered the playoffs phase.

Mexican League

Outfielder Jason Bourgeois turned in a promising stint, batting .342 in 40 games through Dec. 29. He only registered 10 extra-base hits among his 54 hits, but struck out only 20 times in 158 at-bats and stole 11 bases in 14 attempts. He had a .402 on-base percentage.

Venezuelan League

Outfielder Brendan Katin had compiled a .257 batting average in 53 contests through Dec. 29, clubbing 14 homers, knocking in 45 runs and registering a .550 slugging percentage. However, his OBP was only .335 because he walked only 12 times—against 63 strikeouts in 191 at-bats.

Shortstop Alcides Escobar, who last played Dec. 23, had a .224 average with six doubles, one homer and 12 RBI in 116 Abs. He had a nice 13-11 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Utility player Hernan Iribarren was sitting at .298 through Dec. 30. He had contributed five doubles, five triples and two homers while scoring 33 runs in 37 outings. Iribarren sported a .383 OBP with 20 walks and only 18 whiffs in 141 at-bats.

Reliever Jorge Julio hadn't worked since Dec. 19. In 12 games, the righty went 1-2 with an 8.44 earned-run average. He had allowed 10 runs and 11 hits in 10.2 innings but had six saves to his credit.

Lefty R.J. Swindle had 24 appearances through Dec. 18, compiling a 4-0 record and 2.66 ERA with a 19-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 23.2 innings.
