Brian Fuentes Profile
Left-handed pitcher Brian Fuentes announced his retirement last weekend, ending a 12-year career, reports the Merced (Cal.) Sun-Star. After having been released by the Oakland A's in July, Fuentes signed with the St. Louis Cardinals, but didn't stay long.
After just six appearances with the Cardinals during which he posted a 9.00 ERA, the 37-year-old requested a leave from the team to deal with family issues. He was placed on the restricted list in August and did not return. Fuentes became a free agent following the World Series.
Fuentes finished with 204 saves and a 3.62 ERA in 650 career appearances. He pitched for a total of six clubs in an MLB career that began with Seattle in 2001 and included Colorado, the Angels and Minnesota, along with Oakland and St. Louis.
