Became a Cardinal
Acquired by the St. Louis Cardinals from the Cleveland Indians on July 31, 2010 in a three-way trade that sent OF Ryan Ludwick to San Diego.
Lacked consistent control, but kept inducing ground balls. Was on the NLDS roster but did not pitch, then was left off the NLCS squad. Picked up the win in relief in Game 6 of the World Series.
Posted his first 30-start season since 2006 in 2010, making 21 starts for Cleveland and 12 for St. Louis. Led St. Louis with a 3-1 mark and a 2.92 ERA in Sept./Oct. His 76.9
ground ball percentage from the time of his acquisition (7/31) led all Cardinals starters. Underwent surgery for a torn labrum in his left (non-pitching) shoulder
following the season.
Drafted by Rockies in 1st round (No. 21), 1996; dealt to Expos with RHP John Nicholson & OF Mark Hamlin for 2B Mike Lansing, 12/16/97; dealt to Yankees with LHP Ted Lilly & RHP Christian Parker for RHP Hideki Irabu, 12/22/99; dealt to Indians with RHP Zach Day & OF Ricky Ledee for OF David Justice, 7/25/00.
Missed all of 2009 rehabbing from Tommy John surgery in June 2008.
