Selected in the second round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, 75th overall. Signed for a reported $625,000 on August 16, 2010.
Required early April surgery to remove bone chips and transplant UCL (Tommy John surgery) in right, throwing elbow. Placed on 60-day disabled list.
Earned two promotions during the season. He began in Quad Cities’ rotation and ended in Springfield’s bullpen. In between, he started and relieved for Palm Beach, with the shift made to keep his innings under control. Overall, he struck out 89 in 93 2/3 innings with a spotless 1.83 ERA.
Made his professional debut in the Arizona Fall League (0-1, 3.60 ERA, 5.0 IP) before being pulled out due to a minor injury.
As a draft-eligible sophomore, he was a First-Team All-Pac-10 selection with a conference-leading 14 saves and a 2.05 ERA. Previously selected in the 44th round by the Colorado Rockies in the 2008 Major League Baseball draft.
