After watching guys on here come up with all kinds of stats including home and road splits and things like that i wonder what are the best sites for Baseball statistics. Also what are other great Sport related sites that i may be missing? Anyone out there with any recommendations?
This covers the basics pretty well. I'll add a few (too lazy to make links): milb.com - great for minor league stats, schedules, stories, etc retrosheet.org - has old box scores, great for finding specific games
I also like www.firstinning.com ... especially for minor leaguers. I love the fact that there's a game log for minor leaguers at the ready. I was watching Matias/Martinez's progress on First Inning when it was somewhat hard to find other places.
Heh--I just remembered that I have a pin at my disposal, so I pinned it. If the other moderators don't think it should be pinned, I'm ok with them removing it. Let's keep this at the top until everyone at least has a chance to save some of these links in their favorites.

Thanks for pinning this Sport. i am sure there are others here who will benefit from this info. I have already checked out Fangraphs and Baseball reference and i will be visiting them regular from now on.
cnh, I, too, am glad this is pinned. I also like to see when posters here recognize that they can become more knowledgable about baseball and seek out ways of doing so. So I'm glad to see you're interested.
The above-mentioned websites offer a ton of data/info. Once you start researching something specific, I think you'll quickly realize that these sites have more info and data than there's time in a day. It can really be overwhelming, but it sure is nice to have all of that data at your fingertips.
Has anyone noticed on the front page of www.baseballreference.com they now have "2011 Payroll & Signings", along with each team listed and the number of players signed, current 2011 payroll, and estimated 2011 payroll.
"Current payroll" is defined as "Total of contracts for players signed. Does not include unsigned players under team control". "Estimated payroll" is defined as "Estimate of 2011 final payroll based on currently signed players, an estimate of arbitration awards, pre-arbitration contracts, and league minimum players to complete roster". FYI - it lists the Cardinals 2011 current payroll as $99.1 million & their 2011 estimated payroll as $111.1 million.
If you click on "STL" in the chart, it'll take you here, which is the Cardinal team payroll page. It lists each player, along with each player's age, years played, how player was acquired, major league service time, player's agent, contract status, and then it breaks it down to the specific amount the player is making each year.
This may have been on here before, but it's the first time I've seen it. I thought it was interesting.
No mention of Elias sports bureau? Back in the day (70's early 80's) they were widely referenced. What happened? Where is THE BEST place to go for all-time team v.s team records? Seems to me the only 2 NL teams to have a winning record v.s St.Louis are the Pirates and the Cubs. Ironic hugh?
Elias sells their data its not publicly available. This is not a complete stats site but it has good pitch fx data http://brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/pfx.php too bad minor league splits was removed. you can see all their data though on their site minorleaguesplits.com as well as their Major league equivalency calculator.
