Five More Redbirds on Way to St. Louis

With the end of the Triple-A playoffs, five Memphis Redbirds were called up to St. Louis.

Perhaps it is because of the way the season is going for St. Louis. Perhaps it is because the Memphis Redbirds' season ended earlier than expected. I have received word that five more Redbirds are being called up to St. Louis from Memphis, more than I had expected.

They are first baseman Mark Hamilton, outfielders Joe Mather and Allen Craig, pitcher P.J. Walters and second baseman Daniel Descalso. There will have to be a corresponding 40-man move to accommodate Descalso of which I am not aware at this time. Update: Left-handed pitcher Evan MacLane was designated for assignment.

Earlier as rosters expanded, three other Redbirds joined St. Louis. Catcher Matt Pagnozzi and outfielder Nick Stavinoha were called up on September 1. On September 7, shortstop Tyler Greene followed.

Players I projected would be called up but weren't: Steven Hill
Players called up I did not anticipate: Pagnozzi, Hamilton, Mather, Descalso
