Cardinals Winter Leagues Notebook: 10/14/10

Ramon Delgado leads the way in our daily report on Cardinals past and present playing worldwide this fall and winter.

Arizona Fall League

 

Adron Chambers (Springfield-Surprise) started in left field and batted third.  1-for-4 with one walk, one stolen base, and one strikeout.

Tony Cruz (Memphis-Surprise) started at first base and batted fourth.  0-for-5 with two strikeouts and assisted in two double plays.

Pete Kozma (Springfield-Surprise) started at shortstop and batted sixth.  1-for-4 with one triple, one run, two strikeouts, and assisted in two double plays.

Ramon Delgado (Springfield-Surprise) entered in the fourth and pitched two innings.  He allowed no hits or runs, and struck one out. (p-s:16-13)(g/f:3-2)

 

Peoria Javelinas beat Surprise 7-4

 

Next up: Mesa (1-1) visits Surprise (1-1) @ 12:35 PM MST.

 

 

Mexican Pacific League

 

Amaury Cazana (Memphis-Culiacan) started as designated hitter and batted fourth.  1-for-4 with one double, one RBI, one walk, and one strikeout.

Prentice Redman (Former Memphis-Culiacan) started in right field and batted sixth.  0-for-4 with one RBI, one walk, and two strikeouts.

 

Culiacan beat Mazatlan 7-4

Alexander Francisco (Former DSL-Mochis) started and pitched two innings.  He allowed six hits, five earned runs, two walks, and struck one out for the losing decision (0-1). (g/f:3-1)

Iker Franco (Former Springfield-Obregon) started at first base and batted sixth.  2-for-5 with one double, one RBI, and one run.

Hugo Castellanos (Former Memphis-Obregon) entered in the eighth and pitched to two batters.  He allowed no hits or runs, and one walk. (g/f:1-0)

 

Obregon beat Navojoa 7-5

Hermosillo canceled its agreement with Ron Flores (Former Memphis) for the season.  Flores was picked up in the offseason in the LMP Draft of veteran players.

 

 

Venezuelan League

 

Oct. 12:

 

Orber Moreno (Former Memphis-Caracas) entered in the ninth and pitched one inning.  He allowed one hit, no runs, and struck one out for the save (1). (p-s:15-11)(g/f:2-0)

 

Caracas beat Aragua 3-1

Dennys Abreu (Former Tennessee-Margarita) entered in the eighth at left field and batted sixth.  1-for-1 at the plate.

Javier Brito (Former Memphis-Margarita) started at first base and batted seventh.  0-for-1 with two walks, assisted in one double play, and one missed catch error.

 

Margarita beat La Guaira 4-3

 

Oct. 13:

 

Rich Rundles (Memphis-Aragua) entered in the seventh and pitched 1.1 innings. He allowed one hit, no runs, and struck one out for the hold (1). (g/f:1-1)

 

Aragua beat Magallanes 8-2

Javier Brito (Former Memphis-Margarita) started at first base and batted seventh. 1-for-4 with one run, grounded into one double play, and assisted in two double plays.

Yoffri Martinez (Former MiLB Signing-Margarita) entered in the sixth and pitched to two batters.  He allowed one hit and no runs for the hold (1). (g/f:1-0)

2010 COPABE Pan American Qualifier

 

Alberto Castillo (Former St. Louis-Dominican Republic) started at catcher and batted ninth.  1-for-3 with one caught stealing.

 

Dominican Republic beat Cuba 5-2 for the gold medal

 

The third place game between USA and Venezuela was suspended and both teams decided to share the bronze medal: Primera Hora

 

 

Dominican League

 

Jorge Sosa (Former St. Louis) and Oneli Perez (Memphis) reported to Licey camp on Wednesday: Listin Diario

 

 

Colombian League

 

Donovan Solano (Memphis), Chris Swauger (Springfield), and Alexander Castellano (Former VSL) are expected to play for Barranquilla this winter: El Heraldo

 

Cardinals Latin scout Neder Horta will manage the expansion team in Bogota and Mark Shorey (Former Memphis) will be one of the members of the team.  Shorey played for Barranquilla last winter.
