Cardinals Winter Leagues Notebook: 10/15/10

Arizona Fall League

 

Adron Chambers (Memphis-Surprise) started in centerfield and batted leadoff.  1-for-5 with one strikeout.

Tony Cruz  (Memphis-Surprise) started at first base and batted fourth.  1-for-3 with two RBIs (one w/two-outs), one walk, one sac fly, one strikeout, one fielding error, and assisted in one double play.

Zack Cox (GCL-Surprise) started at third base and batted fifth.  1-for-4 with one double, one RBI, and one strikeout.

Pete Kozma (Springfield-Surprise) started as designated hitter and batted eighth.  1-for-4 with one run and one strikeout.

Jordan Swagerty (Batavia-Surprise) entered in the third and pitched 1.2 innings.  He allowed four hits, four runs (two earned), and struck one out for the losing decision (0-1). (p-s:31-21)(g/f:2-1)

Blake King (Springfield-Surprise) entered in the fifth and pitched two innings.  He allowed three hits, no runs, two walks, and struck one out. (p-s:38-20)(g/f:2-3)

Tuxtlas beat Ciudad Mendoza 15-5

 

Ivan Bellazetin (Former MILB Signing-Xalapa) started at shortstop and batted ninth.  2-for-4 with two RBIs, one run, and one strikeout.

 

Xalapa beat Veracruz 12-2

 

 

Venezuelan League

 

Javier Brito (Former Memphis-Margarita) entered in the ninth as designated hitter and batted sixth.  0-for-1 with one strikeout.

Dennys Abreu (Former Tennessee-Margarita) started at first base and batted seventh.  1-for-4 and assisted in three double plays.

Yoffri Martinez (Former MiLB Signing-Margarita) entered in the ninth and pitched one inning.  He allowed no hits or runs, two walks, and threw two wild pitches. (g/f:1-2)

 

Magallanes beat Margarita 6-0

Javier Avendano (Batavia-Aragua) entered in the eighth and pitched to six batters.  He allowed three hits, one earned run, hit one batter, and struck two out.

Springfield pitching coach Dennis Martinez had lunch with MLB scouts on his new baseball academy he is planning in his home country Nicaragua: La Prensa

 

 

Puerto Rican League

 

The league announced that the San Juan Senators have returned for play in the 2010-11 season after a ten year absence.  Ten years ago the San Juan franchise moved to Carolina to become the Gigantes.  This summer Arecibo closed shop and moved to San Juan.  Santurce will miss a second winter of play.  The league will begin play on October 22: Primera Hora
