Cards AFL Interview Series: Brian Broderick

A talk with Springfield Pitcher of the Year Brian Broderick, starting in the Arizona Fall League.

Coming off 2010 season during which he led the entire St. Louis Cardinals minor league system with 14 victories, right-handed pitcher Brian Broderick was invited to compete in the Arizona Fall League prospect showcase. He was designed as St. Louis' member of the Surprise Rafters' rotation.

I caught up with Broderick after his Wednesday, November 3 start, during which he yielded two runs in 4 2/3 innings. It was his fourth outing and second consecutive no-decision after two wins.

On this day, one of his key individual opponents was the first overall pick in the 2010 draft, outfielder Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals. Broderick fanned Harper swinging in their first battle, but Harper dropped a perfect bunt down the third base line to reach safely the second time.

In this exclusive interview for The Cardinal Nation/ subscribers, the first in a series of nine from the Arizona Fall League, Broderick discusses his solid 2010 season with Springfield, what he is working on in the AFL, his future plans and more.
