Cardinals AFL Interview Series: Derrick May

The Springfield Cardinals hitting coach is playing the same role for the Surprise Rafters of the Arizona Fall League. He discusses both clubs in this exclusive interview, our ninth and final one from the AFL.

After helping guide the Double-A Springfield Cardinals into the 2010 Texas League playoffs, hitting coach Derrick May was asked to reprise that job for the Surprise Rafters of the Arizona Fall League. He was also selected as the hitting coach for the West squad in the AFL Rising Stars Showcase.

The 42-year-old, a 23-season veteran of professional ball, completed his sixth year of coaching in the Cardinals system and fourth in his current Springfield role. Earlier, the former first-round pick spent ten years in the major leagues as an outfielder with five different organizations, followed by three years in Japan before concluding his playing career in 2003.

In the following exclusive audio clips, "D-May" first discusses the Cardinals hitters under his tutelage at the AFL. (Most of his Part one comments have already been included in the articles that accompanied the individual player interviews.)

In the second segment, May talks about some of the emerging hitters from the 2010 Springfield club and his hopes for 2011.
