Cardinals Winter Leagues Notebook: 11/20/10

Frederick Parejo collects four hits, a double, and drives in six runs in DH for Player of the Day honors. Domnit Bolivar knocks in three in DH and Cesar Valera plates two in the Venezuelan Parallel League. Amaury Cazana has three hits and a solo home run in the LMP. Matt Pagnozzi debuts and Even MacLane leaves in Dominican League action. Blake King finishes tied for first in holds in AFL.

Arizona Fall League

 

Tony Cruz (Memphis-Surprise) played in 19 games going 26-for-76 (.342) with three doubles, three home runs, 17 RBIs, 38 total bases, 13 runs, seven walks, 14 strikeouts, .393 OBP, .500 SLG, and .893 OPS.

Adron Chambers (Memphis-Surprise) played in 18 games going 22-for-66 (.333) with five doubles, one home run, ten RBIs, 30 total bases, 13 runs, five walks, ten stolen bases, 14 strikeouts, .377 OBP, .455 SLG, and .831 OPS.  He was second in the league in stolen bases.

Pete Kozma (Springfield-Surprise) played in 17 games going 18-for-67 (.269) with seven doubles, two triples, four RBIs, 29 total bases, 13 runs, six walks, one stolen base, 18 strikeouts, one caught stealing, .329 OBP, .433 SLG, and .762 OPS.  He was tied for sixth in the league in triples.

Zack Cox (GCL-Surprise) played in 18 games going 17-for-65 (.262) with four doubles, one triple, two home runs, 14 RBIs, 29 total bases, eight runs, eight walks, 21 strikeouts, .333 OBP, .446 SLG, and .779 OPS.

 

Brian Broderick (Springfield-Surprise) made six starts posting a 3-1 record, 4.39 ERA, and 1.39 WHIP.  He allowed 30 hits, 14 runs (13 earned), five home runs, seven walks, and struck out 11 over 26.2 innings.  He was tied for sixth in the league in wins and tied for second in innings pitched.

Ramon Delgado (Springfield-Surprise) made ten relief appearances posting an 0-0 record, 3.65 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and three holds.  He allowed 12 hits, five earned runs, one home run, three walks, and struck out six over 12.1 innings.  He was tied for eighth in the league in holds.

Blake King (Springfield-Surprise) made ten relief appearances posting a 1-0 record, 6.30 ERA, 1.90 WHIP, and four holds.  He allowed 11 hits, seven earned runs, one home run, hit one batter, walked eight, and struck out ten over ten innings.  He was tied for first in the league in holds.

Jordan Swagerty (Batavia-Surprsise) made four relief appearances posting an 0-1 record, 3.60 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and three holds.  He allowed seven hits, four runs (two earned), and struck out three over five innings.  He was tied for eighth in the league in holds.

The Rays have released Cuban first baseman/outfielder Jose Julio Ruiz after playing for Peoria Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League reports St. Petersburg Times' Marc Topkin.

The Vice President of the Cuban Baseball Federation, Antonio Castro, is trying to work out a deal where Cuban players can play in various other leagues. The players would take home 60% of those salaries while the government would collect the other 40%.  The only country excluded from the deal would be the United States, due to the embargo against Cuba.  El Nuevo Herald
