Cardinals Winter Leagues Notebook: 01/04/11

Raul Valdes allows one run over five innings for his second win for Player of the Day honors and former Cardinal Fernando Tatis drives in one run in the Dominican. Tyler Greene knocks in one run and Renyel Pinto strikes out two over an inning in the LVBP. Luis Mateo is activated in Puerto Rico.

Armando Rios (Former Memphis-Carolina) entered late in the game as a pinch hitter and batted ninth, walking in only plate appearance.

Ivan Maldonado (Former MiLB Tryout-Caguas) entered in the seventh and pitched to three batters.  He allowed two hits, two earned runs, and one walk for the losing decision (0-1). 

Kiko Calero (Former St. Louis-Caguas) entered in the ninth and pitched one inning. He allowed no hits or runs, and struck one out. (g/f:2-0)

Luis Mateo (Quad Cities) was activated by Carolina after Wilberto Ortiz (Nationals) had a severe collision, in the previous game, which has knocked him out of play for the remainder of the season.  Bernie Castro (Licey/San Juan) took a couple balls to the face and is expected to keep playing.  Primera Hora
