Batista, 39, and a veteran of 13-plus seasons in the majors, was 1-2 with a 3.70 ERA in 58 games (one start) for the Washington Nationals last season. He was one of just two Major League relievers with 55 or more appearances in 2010 who did not suffer a blown save.
The right-handed throwing Batista owns a career mark of 96-110 with 41 saves and a 4.51 ERA. In addition to the Nationals, he's pitched for Pittsburgh, Florida, Chicago Cubs, Montreal, Kansas City, Arizona, Toronto and Seattle, posting a single-season best 16 wins in 2007 for the Mariners just two years after saving 31 games for Toronto in 2005.
Snell, 29, split the 2010 season with Seattle and Triple-A Tacoma where he was a member of the Pacific Coast League Champions. Snell appeared in 12 games (8 starts) for the Mariners last year after making 12 starts and winning 5 games for Seattle in 2009.
Snell averaged 32 starts per season during a three-year (2006-08) period with the Pirates, winning a single-season best 14 games in 2006. He was tabbed as the Pirates Opening Day starter in 2008 after leading the Pittsburgh staff in ERA (3.76), strikeouts (177) and innings pitched (208.0) in 2007.
