Cardinals Winter Leagues Notebook: 01/18/11

Tyler Greene collects two hits for Player of the Day honors but stumbles in the field committing two errors. Jose Rada and Rich Rundles struggle on the mound in the LVBP. Former Cardinal Esteban Yan tosses two scoreless relief innings in the Dominican. Ex-Cardinal Nerio Rodriguez allowed one run over five innings in Puerto Rico.

Venezuelan League Round Robin

 

Tyler Greene (St. Louis-Aragua) started at shortstop and batted ninth.  2-for-5 with three strikeouts, one throwing error, one fielding error, and assisted in two double plays.

Jose Rada (Quad Cities-Aragua) entered in the seventh and pitched to two batters. He allowed no hits, one earned run, and one walk for the hold (1). (p-s:8-3)(g/f:0-1)

Rich Rundles (Memphis Free Agent-Aragua) entered in the eighth and pitched to three batters.  He allowed one hit, two runs (one earned), one walk, and struck one out for the blown save (1) and losing decision (1-1). (p-s:16-9)(ir-s:1-1)

Esteban Yan (Former St. Louis-Gigantes) entered in the fifth and pitched two innings.  He allowed two hits, no runs, and struck three out. (g/f:1-1)(ir-s:1-0)

 

Pablo Ozuna (Former Peoria-Estrellas) started as designated hitter and batted seventh.  0-for-3 with one hit by pitch, two strikeouts, and one caught stealing.

Final Regular Season Stats:

 

Edgard Montiel (Former DSL-Leon) played in 12 games going 5-for-15 (.333) with one double, one home run, nine RBIs, four runs, and three walks.

Jem Argenal (VSL-Chinandega) played in 28 games going 13-for-69 (.188) with two doubles, one home run, 11 RBIs, seven runs, one walk, and 19 strikeouts.

 

Gustavo Martinez (Former GCL-Boer) had an 0-1 record, 2.13 ERA, and three saves.  He allowed three hits, five runs (three earned), 11 walks, and struck 12 out over 12.2 innings.

Ricky Martinez (GCL-Chinandega) had an 0-1 record and 4.82 ERA.  He allowed ten hits, six runs (five earned), three walks, and struck nine out over 9.1 innings.

Jose Calero (Former GCL-Granada) had an 0-1 record and 6.00 ERA.  He allowed 13 hits, nine runs (six earned), four walks, and struck seven out over nine innings.

 

 

Cuban League

 

25-year old Adonis Garcia Arrieta hit .334 with 21 home runs and 67 RBIs in the Cuban League during the 2009-10 season.

 

20-year old Guantanamo Onelkis Garcia Speck struck out 130 over 81 innings during the National Championship.  During the 2009-10 Cuban League season he went 5-6 with a 3.40 ERA and throws between 93-95 mph.
