Cardinals Winter Leagues Notebook: 01/23/11

Tyler Greene drives in one run to help Aragua advance to the LVBP championship and Jose Martinez gets a taste of the playoffs. Former MiLB Iker Franco collects a single, two doubles, and scores twice in the LMP. Ex-MiLB Robinson Cancel knocks in one run and former Cardinal Kiko Calero strikes out four over 2 1/3 innings in Puerto Rico.

Mexican Pacific League Championship


Iker Franco (Former Springfield-Obregon) started at catcher and batted sixth.  3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs.

Hugo Castellanos (Former Memphis-Obregon) entered in the sixth and pitched to three batters.  He allowed one hit and no runs for the hold (3). (g/f:1-1)

Venezuelan League Round Robin


Jose Martinez (Springfield-Aragua) entered late in the game as a pinch runner.

Tyler Greene (St. Louis-Aragua) started at shortstop and batted eighth.  1-for-3 with one two-out RBI, two runs, one walk, one stolen base, and one strikeout.


Orber Moreno (Former Memphis-Caracas) entered in the eighth and pitched one inning.  He allowed one hit, no runs, one walk, and struck one out. (p-s:20-12)(g/f:0-1)

Dominican League Championship


Ricardo Rodriguez (Former Memphis-Estrellas) entered in the seventh and pitched to three batters.  He allowed one hit, two runs (one earned), one walk, and threw one wild pitch.

Ivan Maldonado (Former MiLB Tryout-Caguas) entered in the eighth and pitched to one batter.  He allowed no hits or runs. (g/f:0-1)

Kiko Calero (Former St. Louis-Caguas) entered in the tenth and pitched 2.1 innings. He allowed one hit, no runs, one intentional walk, and struck four out. (g/f:2-1)(ir-s:3-0)


Caguas beat Ponce 7-6 in 15 innings
