Cardinals Winter Leagues Notebook: 01/31/11

Jose Martinez comes through with a pinch hit RBI for Player of the Day honors, Tyler Greene collects a hit and scores one run, and Jose Garcia scores one run as Aragua goes down in the final game of the LVBP championship series. 2011 Caribbean Series field set. Former Cardinal Evan MacLane arrives in Japan and receives his number.

Mexican Pacific League Championship 


Obregon took four of seven games over Guasave

Venezuelan League Championship


Jose Martinez (Springfield-Aragua) enter late in the game as a pinch hitter and batted leadoff.  1-for-1 with one RBI.

Tyler Greene (St. Louis-Aragua) started at shortstop and batted eighth.  1-for-4 with one run and one strikeout.

Jose Garcia (Springfield-Aragua) entered late in the game as a pinch runner and scored one run.

Orber Moreno (Former Memphis-Aragua) entered in the seventh and pitched 1.1 innings.  He allowed one hit, no runs, and struck two out. (g/f:0-2)(ir-s:3-0)


Caribes beat Aragua 8-7

I exchanged messages with Kevin Cueto (VSL-Tiburones) and he told me he had been dealing with some inflammation in his shoulder, but says he is good to go for extended spring training if called.


Dominican League Championship


Azucareros swept Estrellas in four games



Both Ramon Ortiz (Rays-Licey/Estrellas) and Bartolo Colon (Yankees-Aguilas/Escogido/Caguas) were left off the Azucareros roster: Listin Diario


Right-handed pitcher Darwin Castillo was signed by the Royals for $300,000 after his All-Star game performance: DPL Official Site



Puerto Rican League Championship


Caguas took four of seven games over Ponce



Nicaraguan League


A new rule has been implemented in the baseball leagues that states if a player is caught falsifying his age he will be banned for life: La Prensa



Brazilian League


MLB will host a baseball camp in Brazil which will feature former players Elias Sosa, Barry Larkin, Bob Didier, Bruce Hurst, and Wally Joyner: Baseball de World

Evan MacLane (Former St. Louis-Orix) arrived in Japan this last week and was assigned #50: Nikkan Sports (picture included)


Evan MacLane (Former St. Louis-Orix) told reporters he is looking forward to facing off against Alex Cabrera (Softbank) once again.  Both played against each other in the Venezuelan League in 2007 and 2008.  Nikkan Sports
