The two were already part of a group of top organizational prospects invited to early minor league camp scheduled to begin tomorrow, on Friday, February 25. Coincidentally, that group began at 21 players.
In the regular season, Gast went undefeated, getting wins in six of his eight regular-season starts. He logged an impressive 36-to-8 strikeout to walk ratio over 35 innings. Gast's WHIP was 1.00 and he posted a .227 batting average and a 1.54 ERA. His ground ball to fly ball ratio was a solid 1.73-to-1. He sports a low-90's fastball, excellent changeup and an improving breaking pitch. Gast excels at holding runners close, with a superb pick off move.
McGregor, St. Louis' 15th round selection in the June 2008 draft from the University of Memphis, began the 2010 season at A-Advanced Palm Beach before making his Double-A debut in late June. With Springfield, he made 15 appearances, 12 starts, and tossed 80 2/3 innings. Now 25 years of age, McGregor allowed 82 hits and just nine walks with 49 strikeouts for a 5.4:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a 3.46 ERA in the regular season.
