Of note, Daniel Bibona and minor league Rule 5 addition Jean Mijares each experienced shoulder discomfort prior to reporting. A rehab approach is being tried with both, with surgery a possibility if the desired result does not occur.

Bad luck continued for Memphis reliever Pete Parise as he suffered an ankle injury that required surgery during the off-season while recovering from rotator cuff surgery on his right shoulder. Fellow Memphis bullpen member Francisco Samuel suffered a minor shoulder strain in major league camp before being sent out on March 11.

Venezuelan pitcher Fermin Montanez is not a full-season roster candidate, but has been assigned to Jupiter for rehab putposes.

Middle infielder Jason Stidham suffered damage to knee cartilage last July. Despite what was originally called a six month rehab, his left knee has not yet recovered sufficiently for him to be cleared to take the field.

In addition, pitcher David Kopp, the only player in major league camp to not play in a game, was sent down to minor league camp on Friday. Kopp, who faced live batters for the first time this spring that morning, is returning from off-season nerve transposition surgery in his elbow. The right-hander will be slotted into regular duty and is not listed on the minor league injury list.

Outfielder C.J. Beatty says he is returning to full action. During his physical, an irregular heartbeat was detected, so his activity was temporarily restricted. The 22-year-old had an EKG on Monday that cleared him for the first official games mid-week. Beatty noted fellow outfield prospect Daryl Jones has played with a similar condition.
