Extended Spring Training

The Leader-Post reports that former Marlins prospect Mitch MacDonald had a private workout with Cardinals officials.  The organization passed at this time due to the depth at first base, but they did have positive things to say about his swing, bat speed, and hands.  MacDonald was drafted in the 46th round (1380th overall) by the Marlins in the 2006 amateur draft and spent two seasons in their farm system (2007-08).  The left-handed hitter is set to play another season in the Western Major Baseball League, a Canadian summer league, where he captured the Triple Crown last season.  He played in 36 games for the Regina Red Sox going 60-for-126 (.476) with 19 doubles, eight home runs, 48 RBIs, 37 runs, 26 walks, five stolen bases, .817 SLG, and 1.368 OPS.
